چکیده
The present report describes outbreaks of viral hemorrhagic disease in domestic rabbits. The provisional diagnosis was reached by feature of postmortem lesions and result of experimental inoculation of liver homogenate in adult and juvenile albino laboratory rabbits. The presence of etiologic agent in the homogenate from spontaneous and experimentally infected rabbits was demonstrated by agglutination of human type O red blood cells. Attempts to grow the virus on embryonated chicken eggs were vain. Other causes of sudden death (pasturellosis, entero-toxaemia and poisoning) were excluded by laboratory culture and mice inoculation. This report appears to be the first documentation of rabbit viral hemorrhagic disease from the Sultanate of Oman.
